Product Description
Overview
The PR6423/002-030 from Emerson EPRO is a high-precision eddy current displacement sensor engineered for non-contact measurement of shaft vibration, axial displacement, and eccentricity in critical rotating machinery. Designed for harsh industrial conditions, this sensor is compatible with monitoring systems such as the MMS 3000 and MMS 6000 series, delivering reliable, high-resolution measurements for turbines, compressors, pumps, and fans.
Key Features
-
Non-Contact Measurement: Detects radial and axial shaft movements without mechanical wear.
-
High Sensitivity: Resolves micro-displacements with incremental scale factor (ISF) typically 8 V/mm ±5% at 0–45°C.
-
Rugged Construction: Stainless steel housing with PEEK sensor tip and PTFE-coated cable withstands temperature extremes and industrial contaminants.
-
Standardized Interface: Works with CON series signal converters to provide linear voltage output proportional to shaft gap.
-
Compact Design: 30 mm case length indicated by the -030 suffix, with M10 x 1 threaded mounting.
-
Wide Environmental Tolerance: Operates from -35°C to +180°C with IP66-rated sensor head and IP65-rated connector.

Working Principle
The sensor employs eddy current technology: an AC-excited coil in the probe generates a high-frequency electromagnetic field. When a conductive target (shaft) enters this field, eddy currents are induced, altering the coil impedance. This change is converted by a matched CON series signal converter into a linear DC voltage proportional to the gap, enabling precise monitoring of radial and axial shaft displacement, eccentricity, and rotational speed.
Applications
-
Steam & Gas Turbines: Radial vibration and thrust position monitoring.
-
Centrifugal Compressors: Shaft stability and bearing clearance measurement.
-
Large Pumps & Fans: Detect early signs of misalignment, imbalance, or mechanical wear.
FAQ & Comparison
Q: Is PR6423/002-030 compatible with older converters?
A: Only when the system is calibrated as a complete matched set with the CON series driver to ensure accuracy.
Q: How does this sensor differ from other PR6423 models?
A: The -030 indicates a 30 mm body length and M10 mounting, ideal for tight installations and high-temperature operation.
